PEG-MGF

Also known as Pegylated MGF

PEG-MGF is a polyethylene-glycol-modified version of mechano growth factor, an IGF-1 splice variant produced by muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress and damage. The PEGylation extends the molecule's circulating half-life considerably compared with unmodified MGF, which is otherwise degraded within minutes. It is studied in research settings for its proposed role in activating satellite cells involved in muscle repair and growth. Evidence remains preliminary, drawn mostly from animal studies, with limited human data specific to this modified form.

Reported benefits

  • Proposed sustained activation of satellite cells involved in muscle repair
  • Extended systemic half-life compared with unmodified MGF
  • Interest as a recovery-focused adjunct following resistance training

How it works

MGF is thought to act on IGF-1 receptors to trigger satellite cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation, processes central to muscle fiber repair and hypertrophy following mechanical damage. PEGylation attaches a polyethylene glycol chain to the peptide, slowing renal clearance and extending time in circulation, which is proposed to allow more sustained satellite cell signaling than the native, rapidly degraded form.

Read before using

This tool produces a rough, educational estimate by scaling commonly-published research ranges to lean body mass. It is not a prescription, medical advice, or a substitute for a licensed clinician. Most peptides use fixed dosing, not weight-based dosing. Individual needs vary. You are solely responsible for how you use this information.

Common questions

What is PEG-MGF used for?

PEG-MGF is a polyethylene-glycol-modified version of mechano growth factor, an IGF-1 splice variant produced by muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress and damage. The PEGylation extends the molecule's circulating half-life considerably compared with unmodified MGF, which is otherwise degraded within minutes. It is studied in research settings for its proposed role in activating satellite cells involved in muscle repair and growth. Evidence remains preliminary, drawn mostly from animal studies, with limited human data specific to this modified form. Reported benefits include proposed sustained activation of satellite cells involved in muscle repair, extended systemic half-life compared with unmodified mgf, interest as a recovery-focused adjunct following resistance training.

What is a typical PEG-MGF dose?

Reported ranges run 200-600 mcg. A low protocol is 200 mcg twice weekly, and a high protocol is 600 mcg twice weekly. This is reference information, not a dosing recommendation.

What is the half life of PEG-MGF?

Estimated at several days due to PEGylation, versus minutes for unmodified MGF. That is what sets the dosing frequency, and it is why the timing guidance is after a workout.

How is PEG-MGF administered?

Subcutaneous: into fat, under the skin. Some research protocols favor intramuscular injection near the trained muscle despite the extended systemic half-life.

How long is a PEG-MGF cycle?

4-6 weeks on, followed by 4-6 weeks off. Given its extended half-life, less frequent dosing than native MGF is typically discussed, with periodic breaks due to limited long-term safety data.

What are the side effects of PEG-MGF?

Reported side effects include unestablished long-term human safety profile, injection site irritation, theoretical concern that extended systemic exposure could diminish the localized signaling advantage naturally seen with native mgf, limited data on immunogenicity of the peg moiety with repeated use. Evidence level for this compound is emerging research.
