GHRP-6
Also known as GH-Releasing Hexapeptide
GHRP-6 is one of the earliest synthetic growth hormone releasing hexapeptides, studied since the late 1980s for its ability to stimulate GH secretion through ghrelin-receptor mimicry. It is notable within the GHRP class for a pronounced appetite-stimulating effect, which has made it a longstanding research tool for studying hunger regulation as well as GH release. Reported use spans recovery support, sleep quality, and appetite support in bulking-oriented protocols. Its side-effect profile, particularly hunger and water retention, is more pronounced than newer, more selective GHRPs.
Reported benefits
- Strong appetite stimulation
- Increased GH/IGF-1 output
- Improved recovery
- Potential lean mass support during caloric surplus
How it works
GHRP-6 activates the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), mimicking ghrelin to trigger pulsatile GH release from the anterior pituitary. The same receptor activation strongly engages hypothalamic appetite centers, producing marked hunger shortly after dosing. Repeated stimulation is also reported to modestly raise cortisol and prolactin.

Read before using
This tool produces a rough, educational estimate by scaling commonly-published research ranges to lean body mass. It is not a prescription, medical advice, or a substitute for a licensed clinician. Most peptides use fixed dosing, not weight-based dosing. Individual needs vary. You are solely responsible for how you use this information.

Often combined with a GHRH analog for synergistic GH release; its appetite effect makes it better suited to bulking-phase stacks than fat-loss-oriented ones.

Common questions
What is GHRP-6 used for?
Reported benefits include strong appetite stimulation, increased gh/igf-1 output, improved recovery.
What is a typical GHRP-6 dose?
Reported ranges run 100-300 mcg. A low protocol is 100 mcg once daily, and a high protocol is 300 mcg three times daily. This is reference information, not a dosing recommendation.
What is the half life of GHRP-6?
~20-30 min. That is what sets the dosing frequency, and it is why the timing guidance is ~30 min before bed, empty stomach.
How is GHRP-6 administered?
Subcutaneous: into fat, under the skin. Injected subcutaneously; often dosed on an empty stomach due to pronounced appetite effect
How long is a GHRP-6 cycle?
8-12 weeks on, followed by 4 weeks off. Community reports suggest appetite effects and GH response may blunt with continuous long-term use
What are the side effects of GHRP-6?
Reported side effects include pronounced hunger, water retention, cortisol/prolactin elevation, injection-site reactions, reported lethargy at higher doses. Evidence level for this compound is well studied.
