# GHRP-2

> GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide-class growth hormone secretagogue that acts on the ghrelin receptor to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. It has been studied since the 1990s, including as a diagnostic agent for growth hormone deficiency testing. Research suggests it produces a reliable, dose-dependent GH pulse with moderate effects on appetite, cortisol, and prolactin. It is commonly used in research and community protocols aimed at recovery, sleep quality, and body composition support.

- Also known as: Pralmorelin, KP-102
- Primary category: Growth Hormone Peptides
- Effectiveness rank: #7 in Muscle & Performance; #1 in Growth Hormone Peptides
- Evidence level: Well studied
- Route: Subcutaneous (Injected subcutaneously into abdominal fat, typically on an empty stomach)
- Dose range: 100-300 mcg
- Dose tiers: low 100 mcg; moderate 200 mcg; high 300 mcg
- Half-life: ~30 min
- Timing: ~30 min before bed, empty stomach
- Cycle: 8-12 weeks on, 4 weeks off (Cycling is commonly used to offset reported ghrelin-receptor desensitization and appetite/cortisol creep)
- Storage: Store lyophilized powder refrigerated (2-8°C), protected from light. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated and use within 2-4 weeks.

## Mechanism of action

GHRP-2 binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) in the hypothalamus and pituitary, mimicking endogenous ghrelin to trigger a pulse of growth hormone release. This pathway is distinct from, and reported to synergize with, growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) signaling. Activation of GHS-R1a also modestly raises ACTH/cortisol and prolactin and stimulates appetite via hypothalamic ghrelin signaling.

## Reported benefits

- Increased GH/IGF-1 output
- Improved recovery and sleep quality
- Modest lean mass support
- Mild to moderate appetite stimulation

## Reported side effects

- Increased hunger
- Water retention or mild edema
- Transient cortisol/prolactin elevation
- Injection-site irritation
- Tingling or flushing

## Common protocols

- GHRP-2 + CJC-1295 (no DAC)
- GHRP-2 + Sermorelin

## Stacking notes

Commonly paired with a GHRH analog (CJC-1295 or Sermorelin) for synergistic GH pulse amplitude; not typically combined with exogenous GH.
