A newly published case series in JCEM Case Reports describes several patients who developed simultaneous and recurrent hordeola, commonly known as styes, and chalazia, small lumps on the eyelid, while taking [tirzepatide](/peptides/tirzepatide), according to [the report on PubMed](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42756500/). Tirzepatide is an approved medication for type 2 diabetes and weight management, marketed as Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Case series like this one report a handful of patient experiences observed in clinical practice. They are useful for raising questions and prompting further study, but they cannot establish that a medication caused the reported symptoms. Eyelid inflammation from blocked glands is fairly common in the general population, and factors such as skin type, eyelid hygiene, and unrelated dermatologic conditions can all contribute.

What this report does is flag a pattern worth watching.
